Small Groups Frequently Asked Questions

How big is a "small group"?
Group size varies according to the type of group. Generally accountability groups are 2-5 and mixed adult groups average 6-12.
Who leads the group?
Groups are led by trained people who love God, others, truth and the church. Groups often develop apprentice leaders who help with shepherding.
How often do we meet?
Groups meet a minimum of twice a month. Many meet weekly.
Where do we meet?
Most groups meet in homes, sometimes staying in one home, sometimes rotating between different member's homes. A few groups meet at the church.
What do we study?
Most groups choose their own curriculum to fit their needs. The Small Groups Ministry office has a wide variety of materials available from which groups may choose. Discovery Groups have a set curriculum as a part of this intentional discipleship program.
How long do the groups last?
Groups do not last indefinitely. Community groups are encouraged to "birth" another group, generally after 1-2 years. Discovery groups vary, but generally stay together for 2+ years, depending on how frequently they meet.
Who attends the groups?
Anyone. Not just members of Fellowship Bible Church, but anyone who expresses an interest in joining. Community groups are "open". That is, they have a core membership, but encourage the use of the "open chair" to welcome newcomers. Discovery groups, because of their focus, are closed to new members. However, new groups form regularly.
What types of groups are there?
You can go to the » types of Small Groups page to get more information. In general, there are Community Groups, Disciple-Making Groups, Men's & Women's Accountability Groups and Service/Ministry Groups.
How do I join a small group?
