Key Improvements to the Leadership Model
- A comprehensive leadership structure aligned to the New Testament
- Provides clarity of roles & expectations of leaders
- Coordination and aligns the various lay leadership positions with the staff ministry leadership
- Deploys servant leaders against the Identified needs of the body
- Intentional about the development of future leaders to meet the needs of the body
Principles of Spiritual Leadership
- Leaders operate from brokenness, humility and intimate communion with God, setting aside their own agenda to pursue and promote God's vision and implement His will (John 12:49-50; 1Cor. 2:1-5; Phil. 2:3-4)
- Leaders embrace the challenges of leadership with faith, courage, and obedience (Josh. 1:5-9)
- Are relational leaders while modeling spiritual maturity to those they lead and shepherd. They own it when they fall short. (2Sam. 12:1-13; 1 Tim. 4:12; John 10:14)
- Are servant leaders, taking initiative for the benefit of others (Mark 10:42-45; John 13:12-17)
Responsibilities of Leaders
- Lead (Ex. 33:12-14; Jer. 3:15; 1 Tim. 5:17; John 10:4)
- Protect (1 Sam. 17:34-37; Acts 20:28-31; John 10:7-15)
- Feed (Acts 6:4; 1 Tim. 4:11-13; John 21:15-17)
- Care for flock in their charge (James 1:27; Acts 20:28, 35; Gal. 2:9-10)
Characteristics of Biblical Leaders
- Eager to serve (1 Pet. 5:2)
- Humble (Phil. 2:1-8)
- Not lording it over (Mark 10:42-44; 1 Pet. 5:3)
- Love people they serve (2 Cor. 2:4; Phil. 1:7-8)
- Pass on sound doctrine (2 Tim. 1:13-14; 2:2)
- Model spiritual maturity (Heb. 6:11-12; 13:7; 1 Cor. 4:15-17)
- Servants in submission, under authority (Phil. 2:6-8; 1 Pet. 5:5-6; Eph. 5:21; Heb. 13:17)
Leadership Roles at FBC
- Elders, deacons, pastors, directors, coordinators, community group leaders, small group leaders, etc.
- There may be further roles developed, but all in response to leadership needs

- Distinctly internal focus (as opposed to non-believers)
